The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in KwaZulu-Natal wishes a speedy recovery to seventeen (17) people who were injured in a head-on collision involving a minibus taxi and a light motor vehicle outside Pietermaritzburg earlier today.

The accident also involved a group of children who were walking along the side of the road. SANTACO KZN is deeply concerned by the circumstances surrounding the crash and the injuries sustained.

SANTACO KZN can confirm that the minibus taxi involved in the incident belongs to an affiliate of the council which was operating within the jurisdiction of the Mafunze Taxi Association.

Commenting on the incident, SANTACO KZN Chairperson Mr Boy Zondi said the council’s thoughts are with all those affected.

“We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident and our thoughts are with all the injured passengers, the affected children and their families. We wish everyone who was injured a speedy and full recovery. The safety of commuters and all road users remains a priority for the taxi industry,” said Zondi.

SANTACO KZN reiterates its commitment to promoting responsible driving, compliance with road traffic laws and the protection of both commuters and pedestrians across the province.
