The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) Limpopo is deeply saddened to report a tragic accident involving a 22 Seater taxi belonging to the Bochum Taxi Association, an affiliate of SANTACO Limpopo. The vehicle was commuting from Polokwane to Bochum. The accident happened last night.

It is reported that the taxi was struck by a truck carrying three trailers, which swerved into the taxi’s lane after overtaking other vehicles.

We convey our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased: two females and the male driver. Our thoughts are with the injured, including 10 seriously hurt, who are receiving treatment at various hospitals:

  • 14 at Hellen Franz Hospital, Bochum
  • 1 at Mediclinic Polokwane
  • 1 at Netcare Polokwane
  • 4 at Polokwane Provincial Hospital

SANTACO Limpopo’s Hlokomela champion, Masilo Mamorobela, has visited the injured and requests prayers for their recovery and comfort for the bereaved families.

SANTACO Limpopo Chairperson Lesiba Ngoepe has concerningly pointed out that “This incident highlights concerns about the R521 (Dendron Road), where repeated fatal accidents have occurred. We urge the government to consider widening the lanes to improve safety.”

Details of the memorial and funeral services will be shared when available.
