The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) Gauteng wishes to assure commuters across the province that all ordinary taxi services will operate normally tomorrow on Friday, 13 February 2026, despite reports of a planned scholar transport strike.
SANTACO Gauteng has noted media reports regarding a potential shutdown by scholar transport operators. We wish to make it categorically clear that this action does not involve the broader taxi industry and will not affect normal public transport services provided by our members.
Our priority remains the safe, reliable, and uninterrupted transportation of commuters to their places of work, education, and other essential destinations.
We further call upon law enforcement agencies to remain on high alert to ensure that any protest action undertaken does not spill over into intimidation, disruptions, or unlawful interference with normal taxi operations. The rights of those who choose to protest must be balanced with the rights of commuters and operators who wish to continue working.
SANTACO Gauteng remains committed to stability within the public transport sector and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
