Location: Site-C Long Distance Taxi Rank in Khayelitsha
Date: 11 December 2025
Time: 10h00 13h00
Every festive season, thousands of families rely on long-distance taxis to reconnect with loved
ones across the country. As operators, we carry that responsibility with pride, and this year we are
strengthening our focus on ensuring that both our vehicles and our drivers are fully prepared for the
busy season.
On Thursday, 11 December 2025, SANTACO Western Cape will launch a focused Festive Road
Safety Activation at the Site-C Long Distance Taxi Rank in Khayelitsha, under the theme
“Safe Travels Start Here: A Safer Journey for Every Family.”
Putting driver wellness first
December travel often involves long hours, night-time driving and high passenger demand. The
biggest risks we see are fatigue and rushed turnaround trips. This activation encourages operators
and drivers to prioritise rest, take regular break stops and avoid driving back immediately after a
long trip. A well-rested driver is essential for safe long-distance travel.
Supporting safe vehicle operation
Operators are encouraged to ensure that tyres, brakes, lights, seatbelts and other essentials are in
good condition before departure. These small checks make a major difference in preventing
incidents and building passenger confidence.
What will happen at Site-C
- Driver wellness and fatigue support, with guidance on rest and responsible driving
- Vehicle readiness checks and advice to address issues before leaving the rank
- Passenger awareness sessions on seatbelts, safe loading and reporting unsafe behaviour
- Collaboration with law enforcement and the Western Cape Department of Mobility to
promote safe travel throughout the festive season.
As the industry, our commitment is simple: to help every passenger reach their destination safely,
comfortably and with peace of mind.
